The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) is an industry-driven initiative made up of hundreds of the world’s top retailers and manufacturers. This network provides thought leadership and guidance on food safety management systems necessary for safety throughout the entire supply chain.

GFSI “benchmarks”, or recognizes food safety standards by evaluating them against a set of criteria to ensure the core of the standards are equivalent and certification will be acceptable. These include: SQF, BRC, FSSC 22000 and IFS audit schemes.

The BRC Food Safety Standard is a leading global brand recognized by thousands of customers worldwide, and has certificated over 15,000 suppliers in over 100 countries around the globe. It was also the first Food Safety Standard to be benchmarked by the GFSI.

The Standards guarantee the standardization of quality, safety and operational criteria and ensure that manufacturers fulfill their legal obligations and provide protection for the end consumer. BRC Global Standards are now often a fundamental requirement of leading retailers.
